You Don’t Have an Inventory Problem — You Have a Cash Control Problem
You don’t have an inventory problem.
You have a cash control problem.
I’ve seen this firsthand.
A cycle count finds an issue.
It gets adjusted.
Everyone moves on.
But nothing actually gets fixed.
Same root cause.
Same behavior.
Same error… repeating quietly in the background.
And the cash keeps leaking.
The manufacturers that perform best over time do something different:
They don’t stop at the adjustment.
They ask:
What caused this?
Where else does this exist?
What other items are exposed to the same condition?
Because inventory errors don’t live in isolation.
They show up in patterns.
If you only fix the one item you counted…
you’re not correcting inventory.
You’re just slowing down the rate of loss.
Real control looks like:
Fixing the root cause
Correcting all affected items
Eliminating the condition so it doesn’t happen again
That’s how you stop the bleed.
That’s how you protect cash.
This is what I’ve learned the hard way.
