Where Manufacturing Cost Problems Actually Begin

Operational Reality: Accuracy

Here’s what I’ve seen.

A lot of cost does not start in finance.

It starts when the business can no longer trust its own numbers.

Inventory accuracy is not the whole problem.

But it is often one of the first places you can see that control is slipping.

When inventory is wrong:

• purchasing buys extra

• planning starts buffering everything

• operations spends time chasing parts

• finance ends up carrying the cost

The manufacturers that perform best over time are usually not the ones with the most meetings, the most dashboards, or the most software.

They are the ones that keep control of the basics.

That usually means:

• accurate inventory

• clean transactions

• regular reconciliation

• numbers people trust enough to use

Inventory accuracy is not just a warehouse issue.

It is a business control issue.

And when that control is weak, cost shows up everywhere.

This is what I’ve learned the hard way.
