When Operators Start Working Around the System, That’s Your Signal
When people start working around the system, that’s a signal.
Spreadsheets outside the ERP.
Manual trackers on shared drives.
Side processes that “just make it easier.”
I’ve seen this many times.
It’s usually not resistance.
It’s frustration.
Either the system doesn’t reflect how the business actually runs…
The data can’t be trusted…
Or the process was never clearly defined.
Leadership sometimes sees workarounds as a user problem.
More often, they’re a clarity problem.
People build parallel systems when the main one isn’t giving them what they need.
Software doesn’t create discipline.
We do.
And when discipline is consistent, the workarounds fade.
