One of the fastest ways to destroy an ERP system is simple:

Inaccurate BOMs.

I’ve seen companies spend millions implementing ERP, only to blame the system when planning starts producing chaos.

But when you dig in, the problem usually shows up quickly.

The Bill of Materials doesn’t match reality.

Components missing

Scrap factors ignored

Substitute parts not defined

Old revisions still being used on the floor

MRP runs exactly the way it was designed to run.

But it’s running on bad information.

Then the symptoms start showing up:

Purchasing chasing shortages that “shouldn’t exist.”

Production orders missing parts.

Inventory counts that never seem to reconcile.

Eventually the business stops trusting the system.

And once trust is gone, people start working around ERP instead of with it.

ERP isn’t magic.

It just amplifies the quality of the data you give it.

If the BOM is wrong, the system will scale that mistake across the entire operation.
